Last week was ‘We Love to Read Week’ at ACST – a week-long celebration of books, reading and all our favourite characters! In French class too, we spent some time reading books and it was great to see Beginner students feeling empowered and willing to try reading in a language that they’ve only been learning for a short time!
In Grades 1 and 2, we read the well-loved famous story of Boucles d’Or et les Trois Ours.
The first graders and second graders really enjoyed listening to the story and then did a couple of activities afterwards to show how much of the story they had understood.
First, they re-read the story in small groups and then sequenced the pictures to tell the story in order. Then, some of the students were able to match the text with pictures and sequence the text of the story in order. Finally, while some students acted out the story of Boucles d’or et les Trois Ours, a few others were able to retell the story in French using the key words that they had learnt. I was so impressed with their retelling skills!
Réussite exceptionelle, les enfants!
