Mardi Gras

It’s been a busy few weeks in the French classroom and we have been learning lots of new words and expressions. Today we had an interesting lesson about Mardi Gras and its significance in French culture and traditions. Ask your child to share what they’ve learnt… You might want to use some of these questions as prompts:

– What is the meaning of Mardi Gras and why is it called that?

– What do French people eat on Mardi Gras and why?

– Why are carnivals associated with Mardi Gras?

Leading on from this, some classes were lucky enough to watch a French recipe for making crepes! A great way to take your child’s learning further would be to get in the kitchen with them and allow them to lead the way in making crepes while they name the ingredients and describe what they’re doing – all in French of course!
